Circle time:
1. Welcome song--Here we are together (Children's songbook); "ducky" hand motions, point to each child with your hands as you sing all 8 names..."in our preschool class" (not primary!)
2. Today's Date--"Today is Tuesday (they repeat), September 8th (they repeat). Yesterday was Monday (they repeat), tomorrow is Wednesday (they repeat)." Sing to "Frere Jacques."
3. Weather--Ask a child to tell what the weather is today. Place card on board. (I found weather die cut shapes at dollar tree--they're going in the bin).
4. Days of the week song--(on CD) Have someone point to days as they sing.
5. Months of year song--(on CD) Again, pointing (and Mandie, using a finger is okay!)
6. ABC Song--(On CD) which we still need to find! Please help look online for a good download! PLEASE!
7. Numbers song--(On CD?) I will post a link for this song on the blog--we can all learn it easily.
8. Birthdays if any--give certificate (in bin) and have easy treat during lunch time (cupcakes are cheap). Should we have the parent of the birthday child bring a treat during lunchtime? What do you think? It might be a little much for the teacher to have all this, and fun for the mom to be there when we have the treat.
Worksheets from letter stories book (the books that determined our new order for learning alphabet, in bin) will now be HOMEWORK sheets to send home with each child so you can work individually with them. During letter practice, we can spend a few minutes writing the letter with them, and then do other activities/worksheets to learn the letter. This will NOT be demonstrated in my first day teaching because I'm doing the alphabet intro, but I will spend time with them writing the first letter of their names.
